Adobe has also published a number of books that cover Photoshop from basic to advanced. It is probably best to start with the Adobe Photoshop CS3 Inside & Out book (Wiley, 2010) as a general reference and then look at other books that cover the specific topics of interest.
Adobe also publishes a number of Photoshop video tutorials. Of these, my favorite is the Photoshop CS3 Inside & Out book. I strongly encourage you to download this video tutorial so that you can view it at your convenience and improve your understanding of Photoshop. If you have purchased the book, please log in to the Internet to access this video tutorial.
## New Features
Photoshop CS3 introduced several major new features, such as:
* **The Quick Selection tool, which greatly facilitates selections**. I cover this tool in detail in Chapter 16.
* **A new ease-of-use interface**. It has been streamlined, making the program more intuitive.
* **Support for multiple monitors**. Previously you had to create one monitor-specific workspace, which was inconvenient. Now, you can create and manage workspaces on either or both of your monitors.
* **Saving and running documents on a local hard disk**. This change has revolutionized how users create and print documents.
* **Support for digital ink**. The digital ink stamp feature in Photoshop CS3 enables users to easily and quickly create stylized images, such as caricatures or caricaturists.
* **Improved masking and cloning tools**.
* **Specialized tools, such as the Content-Aware Move tool**. This tool is an excellent tool for commercial work.
The last feature that I will mention is Adobe’s AIR (Adobe Integrated Runtime) framework, which makes it possible to use the Adobe program through a web browser. The program has been optimized so that you can use Adobe products as widgets, which enable you to access your software through web sites. You can see a real-life example of a browser-based program, such as a web site, in Figure 2-1.

Requirements
You will need a recent version of Windows XP, Windows 7 or 8.1, macOS High Sierra or Windows 10.
There are two methods to install Photoshop Elements. One is to use the installer but this should be used only if you are installing Photoshop Elements on a new computer, since it may overwrite your previous version.
The other method is to use the “Windows Easy Transfer” to transfer files from an older version of Photoshop Elements.
Note: A free copy of Photoshop Elements is available for download.
If you already own a copy of Photoshop Elements and want to transfer to Windows XP, you can use the “Windows Easy Transfer” to do so.
Tools
Open Photoshop Elements on your Windows computer. While you can open the program in your computer’s program menu, you can also download it from Adobe.
The first step is to open Photoshop Elements and click on the square with three dots in the top-right corner. Then, on the menu that pops up, click Help > Check for Updates.
Then, in the Help section, click About Adobe Photoshop Elements to see if there are any updates.
Mac OS users
If you wish to create or edit your own images using Photoshop Elements, you will first need to install the Dreamweaver extension.
Download the Dreamweaver extension for Photoshop Elements
You can download a version of the extension for Photoshop Elements 8, 9 and 10.
1. Open the program and click on the square with three dots in the top right. Then, in the menu that pops up, click Help > Check for Updates.
2. Then, in the Help section, click About Adobe Dreamweaver Extension for Photoshop Elements to see if there are any updates.
Now, open the Photoshop Elements software. If the default screen of Photoshop Elements is not opening, click on Open in Image Browser.
3. Now, it is time to install the extension. If you are using Photoshop Elements 10, you need to click on the little square with a green check mark in the top-right corner.
4. For Photoshop Elements 8, 9 or 10 and macOS High Sierra (or later versions): Click on the square with a yellow question mark and press Enter. This will open a menu. Then click on Install and then click on Download Dreamweaver Extension.

1. Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to communication systems, and is particularly related to an improved method and apparatus for testing communication devices to obtain information relating to the operation thereof, and for communicating that information to a data base at a remote site.
2. Discussion of the Background
As communication devices such as facsimile machines, telephones, modems, etc. are introduced and are utilized by a greater number of customers, manufacturers, distributors and suppliers are faced with the task of servicing and maintaining the operation thereof. In this regard, service calls are increasingly costly and time consuming, as products are being introduced and utilized by a greater number of customers on a daily basis. In this regard, it is important to identify problems relating to the operation of such communication devices and to contact the customer in a timely manner.
As a result of these concerns, communication devices are being provided with a user interface device for allowing a user to communicate with a company or entity that supplies the communication devices. The user interfaces serve as a type of fault locator which allows technicians or customer support personnel to be able to locate a customer at the location of a communication device to service, maintain or repair the communication device.
As an example, modem manufacturers are now producing and selling their service manuals with a modem user interface in which a customer is able to dial a 1-800 number for obtaining instructions for diagnosing and servicing a modem. Other manufacturer’s user interfaces may be activated from a telephone line by dialing information relating to the manufacturer of the communication device, such as a service number, part number, etc. to obtain instructions for service, maintenance or repair of the communication device.
In addition, equipment manufacturers have begun providing telephone numbers in the user interface of the communication devices to allow a customer or technician to connect to the manufacturer for troubleshooting problems relating to the operation of the communication devices. The communication devices are typically interfaced with the customer or technician by a telephone line and modem. The user interface device of the communication device may be implemented in a variety of ways, such as by small, hand-held, semi-portable computer having a display screen and keyboard, a smaller hand-held computer having a keyboard and display screen, etc.
In addition, telephone companies are beginning to include telephone numbers in a caller ID display of a telephone so that a customer or technician is alerted to call the telephone company or manufacturer for troubleshooting or servicing problems with the communication device.

Effects
Photoshop comes with a wide variety of effects, which you can use to create different effects on photos. The effects you can use include Burn, Distort, Screen, Sketch, Weather, Composite, HDR, Soft Light, Dissolve, Toy, Pixelate, Drop Shadow, ZigZag, Noise Reduction, Emboss, Raising, and many others.
Types of brushes
There are two types of brush in Photoshop:
Normal brushes
Airbrushes
Normal brushes
These are regular brushes that you can use for painting and retouching. You can change the size, color and stroke type of brushes through the brush control panel, or simply double-click on the brush to open it.
Airbrushes
Airbrushes are brushes that can be used for strokes that are thinner or larger, depending on how you increase/decrease the size of the brush.
Painting
Painting is a brush that has two modes: The Overlay mode and the Smudge mode. The Overlay mode applies a new layer over the previous layer you have already created. The Smudge mode transfers the pixels from the previous layer to the new layer you just created. This allows you to paint in a new layer while retaining the details of the layer you were painting on.
Sketching
The Sketch tool can be used to create beautiful and unique lines that can be drawn anywhere on the image.
Paint Bucket
The Paint Bucket tool is used to fill up the specified area with a particular color. You can select color from the color picker window or use the color palette box to choose the color you want.
Rubber Stamp
The Rubber Stamp tool can be used to apply a new pattern to the image. You can select the colors of a pattern from the pattern you want, or you can select and fill the rubber stamp area with a color.
Pattern Tool
The Pattern tool is used to create different patterns for use with different images. You can choose from an array of patterns or use the color picker to choose the color you want.
Eraser
The Eraser tool can be used to erase the pixels you want to remove from an image. You can easily clear the area by placing your cursor in it and holding down the Shift key to ensure that the pixels are removed.
Lasso
