W e all know about the smartphones of the youth. Even the youth are aware that they can be tempted to enter into the trap of technology, but they cannot stop it, says a computer science professor from Manipal University in a report published in the The Hindu.
The report reveals that 95 per cent of the youngsters between the ages of 14 to 19 years use technology. And every day, they use technology more than they go outside.
Dr. Ameya Tejpal, computer science professor at Manipal University, further said ‘it was no longer just the few who were seduced by the lure of technology. As opposed to just a few people, every youth in the country is ‘tech-savvy.’ Tejpal was part of a team that conducted a study on the youths from various colleges of Manipal University and Chitrans Ltd.
“They have already made the decision to use technology and are extremely familiar with it. Their ability to operate it is also well-developed,” he added.
According to the study, 89 per cent of the respondents claimed that they use technology in their daily lives. Most of them use Internet, instant messaging, texting and e-mail. They said that they prefer to use a mobile phone over a personal computer.
The survey indicated that 90 per cent of them use social media on a regular basis.
The research team conducted a study among 1205 young college students. Half of the respondents were from colleges in Bangalore and the rest from other colleges in the area.Q:
