bhagat singh (rahul bose) and his friends arya (amitabh bachchan), kanhaiya (govinda) and salman (karan oberoi) in goodfellas (1990) are a close-knit family.as always, the flicks are almost similar. but in vegamovies.nl we’ve got the younger version. the kids are the only ones who come clean. it’s a small story that could’ve been easily taken from the ’80s, except that the parents (reminiscent of big daddy from this is spinal tap) are anything but that. when a little boy comes to school with a tattered backpack and seemingly none of his belongings, the best friends start bailing him out. running little errands for him, they end up finding themselves caught up in a web of corruption and luxury. the impact of this film might not be as strong as other movies of the genre, but you sure don’t want to miss it.
the entire cast does great work and credit should be given to the director, meenakshi thapar, who manages to make every part work and fill the gaps nicely. in fact, none of the stories ever feel like recycled ones. the ingredients of the screenplay are well balanced and the way the filmmaker chooses to introduce every twist in the story is quite neat. however, the story takes a back seat when it comes to the credit sequence. it is quite a heavy contender in terms of the visual look and feel. once you’re done with it, you’ll have to go and watch this movie to get the full impact.
beware though: the journey to this film might prove to be a bit challenging. if you can’t see the stars in the movie, you might have to look up who played whom. another thing that might happen is that you’ll start seeing a lot of randoms staring right at you. this goes for all the characters in the movie. in fact, everyone is quite similar to one another. the only difference is that they look like actors playing themselves. it is quite possible to spot actors performing their own roles, including the one of the kid. watching the credits scene too, you’ll notice the same thing happening in reverse order.

yet, he longs to be like the rest of his peers. he loves his friends, and accepts everything, even those who demand the identical from him. and the teacher, or the school principal, himself, would just bring out the dullness of his routine and dullness of his life. there is enough to motivate stanley, except the greatest motivator — love. he loves books, and he adores them. he reads anything he can, from newspapers to magazines, and finds great joy in reading. but he is never fond of school. his books bring out a narrative of the creation of a new world, and he wants to be part of it. he spends his weekends reading about his imaginary world, and he is always enraptured. that is, except for a female classmate, maya. she does not look too much like a girl — she is serious, watchful and her understanding for a boy’s world is quite commendable.
stanley and maya see each other a couple of times. they instantly strike a spark and they bond instantly. they like each other, but cannot bring out their full potential in front of their peers. they remain friends, while letting time pass on. but then, there is an unexpected turn — maya departs for an alternate education and never looks back. stanley does not see her for a couple of years. however, their love is never called into question. he has started creating a new, better world in the format of his books, while she is busy constructing a world in her mind, out of many books and from her past life.
