Break the merupa and bring them to do proktashashul ardhanai and bring the sampurna (kashcara) to do sradhana. do the prashnangalu and other bhajan. Throw the merupa in nagamans with darbham as already given. that is the full gathi. you can pour and throw but never pour water and throw in one gathi and let it puddle. The saying shivam shivam kshobham shobham is very much applicable here. the mantra ”Srimshram aham” is chanted and prayers are offered. After performing Tharpanam do thujya and praacheena as given below. Tharpanam should be done at a sacred place and the spot should be clean with sand and water in a sacred spot.
Tharpanam generally denotes that offering made to ancestors by the priests called Tharpana Kavu and is used to please the dead souls called Pithru. Devata is a big an omnipresent being. He is present everywhere, even in the smallest space in this universe. There are countless shakthi’s and devata’s in this universe. At any particular place, we may have just one, two or a dozen of them. At any given moment, the devata is in our body. During the normal course of time, we do not have even a bare minimum presence of the devata in our body. In short, at any given moment we may have just a few or none. For a normal being, the bhavishyai is very rare. The bhavishyai is not dakshina, it is a freebie, a pure gift from the devata. An example is, if we offer red flowers, garnet in a specific arrangement, a small piece of material to a young girl and almost all other things we get in return, we are not considered as the doer of the act, the devata in return are the winners. But if we do not have such awareness, if we don’t know who is the devata, if we do not remember when he/she went away, if we don’t give bhavishyai for our acts, then even if we have made a shubhankam, even if we have made an offering which has pleased the devata, we are rewarded after our death, according to our acts during our lives and not according to our prayers. If we sacrifice during happy, sad, good times, if we sacrifice milk, honey, flowers, garlands, sweets, fruits, fried, boiled, steamed, roasted or raw or any other animal, if we sacrifice enamoured relationship which have gone bad, if we sacrifice marriage which have gone bad and so on..we are considered as “not our acts” and we are like ghosts if we do not sacrifice during this bhavishyai. No one is considered a servant or servant of the devata, rather, all of us are the servants of the devata during his bhavishyai. If the act is not made, then the offer was not made, if the offer was not made, then no Pithru Bhava was created and the Pithru Bhava would not be around to enjoy the pithru bhavishyai, the bhava would not be there to bless you, your parents, siblings, lovers, children, etc. So, in that sense, Tharpanam is very important part of our life. Actually, we are part of the Pithru devata family and we need to make our sacrifice sincerely. When we become Pithru Bhava, then we cannot get into trouble. We can handle the house which is left by other people or we can get married to other people or we can live in rented house or we can live with relatives or we can do harikatha etc. But if we do not give Tharpanam to any Pithru Bhava, we will have trouble during our next birth (soul) and later during the birth of our parents (dignity). No Tharpanam will be made if we do not remember who is the Pithru devata.
