Making History: The Great War – The Red Army Download With License Key

In 1915, in the race for the revival of trade to Russia, German companies flooded western Ukraine with meat, sugar, butter, munitions and grain. They provided much of the food necessary for the Red Army to fight the Great War. While some Tatars and Poles actively supported the Germans, the overwhelming majority of Ukrainians were hostile to them. And there was growing animosity too among the populations of the Russian empire. Russia’s allies, the Turks, stipulated that Russia would join the war once the Austro-Hungarian Empire had been defeated, but this seems not to have been the attitude of the tsarist ministers with Russia’s foreign policy. Of course, they too had an interest in the war, which meant preserving order in the region, but that did not necessarily mean that they had to allied with the Germans.

The most important factor in the Russian victory in World War I was a huge military force. The fate of the empire, and the fate of the age, hinged upon how well the Russian regular army and the Russian people could withstand the strain of war.

Numbers, organization and logistics were the crucial factors for Russian success in World War I. As long as Russia could marshal and move the troops to the field in sufficient numbers, and keep up communications necessary for effective command, it would prevail. Russia must be able to mobilize its huge population for a year of war to succeed.

By 1916, Russia had a standing army of 2.7 million men, almost twice that of the Austrian army. Every Russian soldier had his own uniform that marked him as first in the order of battle. A typical group of Russian troops in World War I comprised seven officers, an officer’s NCOs, 16 NCOs, a transport driver and only 308 men in the fighting ranks. Some units had numbers of soldiers in excess of 500. Russian troops did not receive the British style of British 1914 trench warfare uniform, but instead wore colorful Russian field garb.
