I really did my best to ‘test’ Photoshop out, I didn’t just jump into Lightroom 5.2 so that my shots of the review were the same anyway. Maybe I’ll get one of you editors to test Adobe vs LR and see if it makes any difference. The only reason I have not is that I am not computer literate enough to look at the numbers and tell you if LR is using more/less memory, and I don’t know if either Adobe or LR keeps track of this sort of information. If anyone does, I’d be interested to see how they compare.
My test went on for a while but I think part of the reason is the same as you noticed in your piece: It’s not just Lightroom but some of the other ram hungry apps I have on my PC. Both Photoshop and Lightroom have their own cache of thumbnails and that is where a lot of the memory is eaten up. Does PS keep track of things like this? Maybe I should try 2 machines and then isolate what is PS and what is the other processes.
