If the 2017 Administration Budget isn’t quite as draconian as advertised, it still has some eye-popping “balancing” items in it for 2015 and 2016 that would need congressional approval. This wouldn’t be the first time. Recent history is littered with program launches, benefits and feed-in subsidies that were put off for now because Congress had an “emergency” to deal with.

The U.S. needs a re-calibration of its lifestyle, economy, and government operations in the next 50 years. We have to re-examine how we use and collect energy. The United States is basically dependent on oil imports for 30% of its energy needs. Over the long term, most experts believe that America will use far more energy and water, but not in the near future.

In this time period, there are two main sources of energy that are being used: coal and nuclear. Coal is considered dirty and it provides too much of a carbon footprint. In the country’s vast plains, coal is easy to dig, but clean technology and growing energy markets overseas make it less economical to mine.

The nuclear approach is cleaner and safer, and poses less of a carbon footprint. The “safe” run-up to the Chicago Nuclear event is the subject of a new book (“2016 Chicago Nuclear Blast”) by Mike Hoffman.

What would make the near-term U.S. go in an economically, environmentally, and financially healthy direction? We have to get off oil. We’ve used it up. The Middle East has been selling it us for decades, and we will probably continue to do so for years.

We need to get off coal. It is a dirty, dirty energy source.

Boomers are going to have to make some changes in the way we live. This is a real change in the country’s lifestyle. Many of the boomers are big hunters and have growing herds of food animals, and a few personal fleets. They have so much stuff. While the boomer generation has conserved resources over time, their children have not.
